Where are the customers going to come from?

Dunkin Donuts is coming! Austin is now going to have 26 new locations in the next two years.

Question: Where are the customers going to come from? Will they take customers from Starbucks? KrispyKream? Or are there thousands of customers out there waiting for Dunkin Donuts to open? Is the brand relevant in Austin?

I will be one! I love Dunkin' but I dont think they will take away customers from the big Starbuks as people are so use to there daily moca grande I dont think they will change. But if Dunkin is agressive in the market and all of the Notherners go bad to there childhood they may just have a chance.

Power in numbers. They will do great, save a cup for me I will be the first in line. But I live in Boston so I have it every day!

On 183 there is already a Dunkin donuts. It is 1/2 a mile from the krispy kreme and was there first. When Krispy kreme first opened I think they lost a lot of business, however over time I think they have reclaimed a large piece of what they have lost. I think there is opportunity here for them.

In general I find that there is a lot of dissatisfaction locally with Starbucks (price, quality and service issues). I also do not believe that the long term penetration that Krispy Kreme was looking for has materialized. If Dunkin Donuts embraces the the local audience there is a strong opportunity for them. Plus the original Dunkin Donut is the best.

Dunkin and Baskin have been pretty smart over the last few years. I found this article that you may be interested in: http://www.forbes.com/business/2007/02/26/starbucks-dunkin-donuts-biz-cx_tvr_0227starbucks.html
